It’s a well known fact that we are die-hard fans of Round Top, Texas. We make the trip every Spring and Fall, along with every other Texan and creative junkie to experience Antique Week. It’s a magical place and one of our happiest places to visit as it is an inspiration mecca. Fields upon fields, tents upon tents, filled with treasures with their own stories just waiting to be reborn and retold. So, when our good friends at The Vintage Round Top invited us to a social luncheon to meet and connect with the beautiful faces behind the legendary antique week and creatives alike – we could hardly resist!

Pie us happy! Now we know why it’s called the Pie Haven.

Held at the iconic Texas bistro, Royers Cafe “home of the Pie Man”, the whole afternoon and experience was tailored to reflect the atmosphere this creative bubble has worked hard to establish. From the local organic centerpieces to the hand-dyed tablecloths; it was friendly, comfortable and colorful just like the people of “Roundtopolis”. But, what is it that makes this sprawling countryside so appealing? The ladies of the Round Top Register described it best – “where the creatives gather for the thrill of the hunt!” Entrepreneur and Trend-setter Courtney Barton of Mela + Roam spoke more on the drive of a creative. “Everyone is authentic to who they are,” Barton said. “Get to know the people behind the product and what they’re selling.” That afternoon we discovered a room full of women, more alike than different – mothers, wives, business owners, trend-setters, stylists and artists – passionate about their craft and their clients, very similar to the heart of our own company. We didn’t think it was possible but in that country pie store, we fell even more in love with Round Top.

But it wouldn’t be an official trip to Round Top without visiting our favorite B&B and vacation home – The Vintage Round Top. It is the most chic, comfortable and conventionally located accommodations on Hwy 237. Owners, Paige and Smoot Hull, initially purchased and renovated the farmhouse as a creative outlet and family vacation getaway, but got much more than they bargained for. They have made their dream into a reality, and their mission is focused on helping other young artisans to nurture their own creativity into business ventures. We love this power couple and we love what they have created. Stylish lodging featuring modern clean lines, re-purposed vintage furniture and a home away from home that marries style, sustainability and soul. The perfect retreat for an anniversary, honeymoon, girls weekend, rehearsal dinner and more! See more of the space and the stunning decor on the VRT website, or see it person and book your stay now! Stay tuned for a collaborative project with VRT this fall!

It seems like just yesterday we were at BHLDN for the Valentine’s Day Pop-up Shop surrounded by lovely dresses, heartfelt accessories, hand-crafted gifts and dreamy floral by The Moss & Rose. The entire event was simply amazing! With the help of our vendor dream team, we created a one-stop shop for beau’s to surprise their special valentine with custom floral bouquets, hand-lettered cards, delicious cupcakes and bubbly, and wedding planning & proposal advice from yours truly!

The BHLDN ladies did a fabulous job styling the table with their love related inventory, Francis Ford Coppola Winery provided Sofia Coppola sparking wine attached with mini straws, Crave Cupcakes had an array of yummy cupcakes and The Weekend Type custom made hand-lettered cards specifically for the event! Although we have to give a special round of applause to the shining star of the event, Jody Strom of The Moss & Rose and her unique floral arrangements. She is curated, selective, thoughtful, and cares about the smallest detail. It’s what makes her work look like art. Jody spent her college years tending to a mini greenhouse as she earned her Horticulture degree from Washington State University, and has spent the last year in Houston as a designer, building her floral business. She still grows quite an impressive garden in her own yard. She attributes her success to her unusual eye, “When I’m preparing for a design project now, I’m constantly on the look out for something unusual, a dark stem that might be just the right accent or a certain leaf shape to give that specific feeling… Flower arranging has gradually become an increasingly larger part of my flower love over the last 8 years, and last year we launched The Moss & Rose. It has been been such a wonderful first year! Lots of work, but well worth it!

This year’s pop-up shop was inspired by McKenzie Powell Designs, an amazing floral designer in Seattle, and Saupia, an incredible design group in New York. Making beautiful bouquets, meeting new folks in our amazing city, and playing “shop”! It was the perfect little idea! We added a little twist of our own and offered custom made flower crowns for any BHLDN customer who wanted one. It was so fun to be able to offer these ladies a little something to make their Valentine’s special! One guy after the next came in to experience the one stop shopping, and groups of girls sipped champagne while shopping, adorning their complimentary flower crowns. We can’t wait until next Valentine’s to offer our services again! Read more of the advice we offered here!

A touch of greenery transformed the Gardens gazebo into a botanical sanctuary.

Springtime has finally arrived and we couldn’t be more anxious for what’s in store! Budding flowers and flourishing greenery is just what we need to get over this year’s overdrawn winter blues. This time of year also marks the annual open house at The Gardens of Bammel Lane - we’ve had the pleasure the past four years to contribute towards the event’s style and design. Last year’s theme was Botanical Bliss - an au natural take on the charming English garden venue, expanding on the existing greenery and floral with subtle pops of color. To bring our vision to life, we utilized the prepped open house as a faux wedding for our ideal organic-botanical-garden couple captured by Sarah McKenzie Photography.

A petite floral crown by Something Special in Flowers provided a burst of color for our bridal look. We love the drama of the deep berry lip by Sunkissed and Madeup.

With so many warm colors in our palette, we kept our groom in cool neutrals and added a fun patterned tie.

Another inspiration for the open house was watercolor and botanical prints. Artful Designs by Rachel Nieman combined the best of both worlds in the invitation suite.

Subtle, muted neutrals intertwined with the botanical print and a pop of color in the liner for an organic invitation suite by Artful Designs by Rachel Nieman.

We love the juxtaposition of the glam elements of this BHLDN gown against the raw organic feel of the floral and surrounding greenery. Floral by Something Special in Flowers.

A little bit of color goes a long way! Warming up these botanical ferns with bright tones of red orange and yellow for the bridal bouquet by Something Special in Flowers. For bridesmaids, you can do clusters of greenery only to set apart from the bridal and coordinate with the theme.

Nestled in the heart of the Gardens, our head table was placed under the botanical gazebo. A centered location ideal for your main table – head or sweetheart – to be in the middle of the celebration and surrounded by your guests.

The “Elizabeth Chair Cap” from Over the Top Linen was the perfect element of romance for our head table.

Our original inspiration was utilizing apothecary jars in a cluster or mixture of single blooms as a centerpiece. These wooden crates from Any Occasion Party Rentals achieved a similar look while adding an additional natural element and height when stacked upon each other. Floral by Something Special in Flowers.

Our ideal couple isn’t into fancy cakes, they crave authentic simplicity which is why we chose an ordinary bundt cake to serve as the wedding dessert.

Houston is growing ever so quickly and so is the wedding and event industry. We are so excited to announce that a new venue is opening in the Houston Art District, formerly the First Ward neighborhood – just outside of downtown Houston. Well actually, this venue has been there longer than any of us has been living! Station 3 is an historic fire station- the last one standing in its condition. It has the original brick, wooden floors, fire fighter pole, and unique architecture that gives it so much character. You want your wedding venue to have a story or to convey a message- this one speaks of Houston’s rich history and culture. We love that Station 3 is a preservation of our city’s best and bravest citizens.

The 5800 sq. ft., two story historic building has great structural bones and stunning city views for every type of event. The open space is literally a blank canvas for clients to create their dream event. Station 3 generously offers valet parking, an onsite event coordinator, and includes tables and chairs for up to 200 in their wedding and corporate rental packages. The onsite coordinator, Kerri Smelek, is very knowledgeable and passionate about making Station 3 a fabulous place to host events. We know what it’s like to run a one-woman show and have teamed up to offer Station 3 clients exclusive style and design assistance in addition to their existing day-of services.

The split level layout allows for a spacious ceremony or reception, and you can easily transition from ceremony to cocktail to reception on different levels. And it’s not just for weddings! The space is multifunctional and can accommodate intimate or large gatherings such as rehearsal dinners, engagement or birthday parties and corporate functions. The owners have brought new life to the old building, by restoring the existing architecture and bringing it up to the 21st century with amenities and exciting additions. There are plans in the making for phase 2 and phase 3 which include more open space, an enlarged bridal suite, and a rooftop entertainment space! With a view like that why not?! Oh, and the fire fighter pole is not just for looks. Our very own Casey Temple took it for a spin during our tour – it would make for one heck of a grand entrance for a brave bride and groom! Check out the video on our Instagram. Special thanks to Jack Perry of Perry Video & Photography for the photos!
Station 3 Images - 2014-
Station 3 will host their first event this month and is now booking for 2014 and 2015 weddings. To set up an appointment or for more information, contact Kerri Smelek at kerri@houstonfirestation.com or visit their website. We are so looking forward to creating beautiful events in this fabulous space!

When Now and Forever Bridal Boutique asked us to plan a trunk show for the fabulously talented bridal fashion designer Hayley Paige we said YES! Two Be Wed is familiar with Hayley Paige’s line as several of our clients have worn her collection and we have borrowed Paige’s dresses from Now and Forever for inspiration/styled photo shoots.

Saying yes was the easy part- coming up with a creative format and concept for the event was the challenge. Trunk shows can be quiet, uneventful, and rarely provide an opportunity to get to know the designer on a personal level. Hayley is a ray of sunshine (really, just look at her smile!) and we wanted to get inside her head and hear her speak from the heart about her 2014 collection. “Perfectly Paige” was just the event to do that.

Paige shared her inspiration for the line, how she names her dresses, and her philosophy of creating juxtaposition in her designs. A classic and simple a-line silhouette paired with a gorgeous crystal beaded bolero jacket or a ballroom gown tulle skirt with a hint of lavender or what she calls alabaster- this is juxtaposition. It’s blending the fanciful and flirty, classic and couture, and sexy and sophisticated.

With the help of The Moss and Rose and Artful Designs by Rachel Nieman we explained how the dress sets the tone for the wedding planning process and the decisions made along the way. Jody Strom sketched beautiful renderings of bridal bouquets that were displayed throughout the boutique and Rachel Nieman hand-lettered the names of flowers used and the styles of the bouquets. This was one of the highlights of the event!

Despite the close to freezing weather we had a great turnout. The ambiance was warm and inviting as Miran from Arcadia Strings played familiar wedding songs on her violin. Cordua Catering passed champagne and served delicious canape and mini desserts from Petite Sweets. The boutique was literally bedazzled with the amber sequin table coverings provided by our dear friends at Over the Top Linens.  Representatives from Weddings in Houston and Houston Brides attended as well. Sasha Boheme Photography kindly captured the event and details!
