The inspiration for this styled shoot for the Life & Craft Workshop was drawn directly from the rugged ranch land while maintaining elegance with florals inspired by the Dutch Masters style. We incorporated metallic accents and touches of leather to create a masculine and sophisticated look. With a deep fall color palette, mixed metallics, and a subtle nod to Ralph Lauren’s ranch home in Ridgeway, the outcome is “ranch-refined” and distinctly Texan, a blend of Southern and Western in one aesthetic. Check out Southern Wedding’s feature for more photos from Luke & Cat.

The whole photo shoot became a masterpiece of the finer things of fall including the fall foliage perfection by Bramble and Bee that made up the bridal bouquet and table centerpiece and the fig inspired invitation suite and cake by Emily Reeves Calligraphy and Sugary and Chic.

Sometimes thinking outside the box can pay off in spades. When Dana contacted us about this concept we were excited for the challenge to work on something that pushed our creative boundaries. This modern minimalist design that we lovingly know as “Dark to Light”  was a breath of fresh air to style and design and we loved working with all of the vendors involved. From the acrylic invitations with glow in the dark ink by Nib and Pixel, to the hanging tulips and contrasting bouquet by Flower Power Productions, we just can’t get enough,  and in case you can’t either you can head over to Mod Wedding for more!

We have to give a shout out to Hey Lovely Makeup for our model’s bold and gold flecked look! And that black and white cake was a creation unlike any we’ve seen before. We love finding inspiration wherever we can, and this photo shoot idea originated on a recent trip to Round Top, one of our favorite Hill Country Destinations! The muted palette was pulled from a locally found tumbleweed – sand, honey, chestnut, rose and wild blue, allowing the outdoors to really shine!  The Prairie was the ideal location to capture the open fields and rolling hills that we love about the Texas countryside. More of our modern rustic shoot is featured on Burnett’s Boards!

Wild lush greenery was the star of our floral design by F.Dellit Designs, with pops of minimal soft blooms. The Cascada gown from BHLDN was modest in design but full of movement and beauty. Overall a modern nod to the raw beauty of the countryside!

Inspired by the bold pattern of gingham, we set out to bring some extra glamour to this preppy staple. Set in the beautiful gardens of River Oaks Garden Center, this styled shoot brings together the classic garden style and adds some whimsical romance. Knowing that gingham is bold all alone, we used in sparingly in statement pieces that would really pop: backdrop, napkin, invitation, and cake. Our gals at Blush and Vine chose bright hues of red, pink and fuchsia to add a vibrant modern edge to the classic style. The tablescape was kept minimal to not outshine the garden landscape and really highlight the pop of gingham in our custom napkins, however the Louis Ghost chairs did all the magic for us – it was the perfect compliment for our pattern napkin and the right amount of modern! Hand painted touches including the stationery, cake and cookies emphasized the whimsical romance we aimed to capture. Head on over to Grey Likes Weddings to gush on more details!

Drawn to to the simple beauty of starry night skies, the Finnish artist and the Texan lawyer saw it as a cross between their roots. Traditional Finnish crafts often include star-shaped and geometric motifs, and the classic song Deep in the Heart of Texas starts with the line, “The stars at night are big and bright / deep in the heart of Texas.”  The couple loved the look of constellations, metallics, nebulas, druzies, mixed with simple geometric lines, Scandinavian minimalism, and the contrast of warm gold and cool amethyst. The look came together with lots of little details, from beautiful bronze himmeli (a traditional Finnish craft) in our ceremony backdrop,  glittering gold- and silver-sequined bridesmaids dresses, to the planetarium-inspired invitation suite and programs that doubled as star guides. We are over the moon to have this wedding featured on Bespoke Bride, head over to their blog for more!

From the Bride: “We wanted to have unexpected fun moments in our wedding, and we opted for a cocktail party-type reception.  Our reception was full of musical performances by family members as well as an incredible audio-visual art piece created by family friends who are artists.  My grandfather played country folk tunes and my groom’s brother and best friend performed some of our favorite pop songs, including an Iron & Wine song (“Flightless Bird American Mouth”) for our first dance.  We also set up a mini himmeli-making station for our guests to create their own special craft to take home with them.  Instead of a traditional seating chart, we had a world map showing all of the places our guests had come from. I hoped it would make our guests feel welcome and let everyone know how grateful we were for how far they traveled to be with us on our wedding day.  I know it ended up being a conversation starter between guests from the same city!  The map fit in with our theme too with its beautiful glitter gold frame and starry dark background.” _MG_1461_MG_0652 _MG_0657 _MG_0670 _MG_0697_MG_7533 _MG_1441 _MG_0060

Men can be hard to shop for, and in a world where the options are endless for bridesmaid gifts, sometimes we need a little help coming up with ideas for the fellas. We went on a search for some fun and unique ideas that won’t break the bank and will cause high fives all around. With the help of the website Groovy Groomsmen Gifts, and some local favorites, we rounded up 6 ideas that will be perfect gifts for your big day!
2014-05-03FinnWedding-PrintResJpeg-_R7A9786A
1. Vintage Cuff Links
Vintage Cuff Links are a great option for an eclectic gift that can be used for the wedding and beyond. You can choose different cuff links for each groomsman based on their personality and they will serve as a great keepsake after the big day! We found some great options at the local Houston Heights store, Manready Mercantile and there are plenty to choose from online!cuff links manready orig
2. Monogrammed Leather Travel Bag
This leather travel kit is a great gift for the groom and his groomsmen. All the leather is genuine and soft, and the silver plate monogram is a nice added touch for customization. The compartments are roomy and you can even stand your shampoo and conditioner upright because of the style of the bag! Check out Groovy Groomsmen Gifts for this overall excellent product!

3. Ties and Bowties
You can’t go wrong with gifting your guys a tie or bowtie. Just like the cuff links, this is something they can utilize on the wedding day and after. The options here are endless, but we recommend you have fun with it! This is a great place to incorporate color and personality into the groomsmen attire. Whether you find them at your favorite department store, or have them customized, this gift is sure to add some style.

4. Glassware and bottle of favorite liquor
This gift is pretty self explanatory. If your group of guys enjoys a nice cocktail or a beer or two, glassware along with their beverage of choice is a practical gift that will be appreciated by all. We came across all kinds of options on Groovy Groomsmen Gifts including personalized decanters, whiskey stones and beer mugs.
classic decanter set single groovy groomsmen whiskey stones groovy groomsmen beer mug groovy groomsmen
5. Handwritten letter with a picture framed from childhood, junior high, college, or recent years
Sentimentality isn’t only for the ladies, tell your men how much they mean to you with a thoughtful letter that reminisces on your times together, and thanks them for being there for you. Go through your old photos from high school and college, or dig up something from your childhood. This is something that the guys will be able to look back on for years to come.

6. Grooming day
Sometimes gifts are great ways to drop a hint, and sometimes men love to be pampered as much as the ladies do. Treat your man or his groomsmen to a personal shave, hair cut, or even a MANicure. There are multiple shave shops in Houston that are definitely worth checking out, such as Cutthroat Barbers or The Boardroom Salon. Or you can gift him with his own shaving kit like the one we found at Manready Mercantile.

While we are in the business of creating beautiful and meaningful weddings, we are also believers of having our couples create a marriage that is more amazing than what we design for their special day. One way that we recommend keeping marriage fun and exciting, is to never stop dating your spouse! Dates don’t have to be extravagant or expensive, just the two of you making time for each other and remembering what it was like to fall in love. Strolling around a new part of town, making a new recipe for dinner, or taking a bike ride are all great examples of ways to spend time quality time together.  CottageHill-20CottageHill-181CottageHill-206CottageHill-116 CottageHill-54CottageHill-172 CottageHill-166 CottageHill-202We loved collaborating with Cottage Hill Magazine for this photo shoot and having the opportunity to work with some very talented vendors such as Ashley Monogue and Bramble and Bee. We couldn’t have asked for a more perfect day or a sweeter couple to bring this date idea to life. You can see more on Cottage Hill’s online journal.

Daniela and John are artists through and through. Both are musicians in their band, New York City Queens and when they’re not performing or touring; John is a professional sound mixer at a local music studio and Daniela is a wedding & portrait photographer. Their wedding vision was simple and pure: to celebrate their union with their loved ones and stay true to their artistic perspective. They had their hearts set on a mini destination wedding in the hill country with a urban/rustic setting and Vista West Ranch couldn’t have been a more perfect fit. Nestled between Wimberly and Austin, the ranch checked everything off their must-have list and matched their styles. We married the setting with a botanical design and thus Urban Rustic Botanical was born. Find more of Daniela and John’s wedding featured on Junebug Weddings.

With the couples minimal mod style in mind, decor was kept to a minimum but bold in color. A variety of blooms in berry tones with pops of yellow and blue vessels. Daniela hand-made all the signage and the linen garland marking the aisle. Guests were served gourmet southern cuisine: fried chicken, roasted potatoes and a mac-n-cheese bar with all the fixings. Daniela is the sweet tooth of the two, and Blue Note Bakery made it hard to pick just one flavor – so why not serve them all! Chipotle Chocolate and Tiramisu were crowd pleasers, and the colorful cake bars were almost too pretty to eat.

There was not a dry eye in the house during the ceremony as John retold how they met and their love at first sight. There was a lot of tissues, tears and laughter. Daniela’s brother stood as her side as Man of Honor and John’s father served as his Best Man. We have no doubt that their love will be a magical muse for their art and their future together as husband and wife!

From the bride:
We really wanted our wedding to be a reflection of who we are as a couple, and not worry too much about sticking to tradition. We also knew we would have family and friends traveling from all over the country, and for some internationally, and wanted to give them an experience that was a little bit adventurous but also intimate and laid back. We were fortunate to have amazing vendors, especially our wedding planner Ashley, who shared our vision. One of my favorite parts of the planning process was creating a lot of the decor, with the help of one of my best friends and bridesmaids. John and I personalized everything from the design, to the wedding party (my brother was Man of Honor, and his Dad Best Man), our own written vows, southern comfort food, and music. We were amazed to see everything come together in such a beautiful setting. It was truly the most fun and romantic night of our lives.

Lena and Lucie first contacted Natalie early in the spring asking if there were any opportunites for them come to Texas for an internship. The University the girls attend in France require them to take on an internship abroad, and they just so happened to find Two Be Wed while on their search for wedding planning companies in Houston. We were so excited to welcome these girls to Texas and to invite them to be a part of our team for a couple of months! They were able to assist with multiple weddings, styled shoots, attend a number of various planning meetings, and have some fun with us as we celebrated moving to a new studio! They also took some time to answer some questions about what they learned and their experiences while here.

IMG_1801

What was your favorite part of the internship?

Lucie & Léna : “Definitely [Two Be Wed Coordinator] Casey’s wedding… Because it was nice to being part of this important event for Two Be Wed…it was one of the more beautiful weddings that we got to work on! We also both liked working on our own styled photoshoot with Natalie at High Fashion Home, and shaping our project and what we learned during these 2 months, and we can’t wait to start it when we get back to France! Then, we also liked Galveston’s venue (Hotel Galvez). Even if it was very hot out there.”

IMG_1795 IMG_1793 sans-titre (3) sans-titre (7)

What did you learn about wedding planning?

“We learned that we have to be focused on details, accurate, ensure the event runs smoothly, manage the unforeseen, and be reactive! We also realized that it could be very stressful!”

What was your favorite part of living in Houston?

“SUN!!! The beautiful weather, people are very nice, very welcoming!”

What surprised you the most about the internship or living in Houston?

“The most surprising thing was how badly Houston’s inhabitants drive! They’re so crazy! Then, being stuck in the flood in Downtown was such a bad memory, the hurricane alert surprised us too because we don’t have that in France! Concerning weddings, American’s wedding budgets are so huuuge compared to France! BUT, French people knows best how to party until 5am!!”

End at 5AM

Dinner ends at 8.30PM (eat fast)

Wedding planning is more usual

Wedding planning is not very known

Food is not a priority

Open bar

Each meal has its wine/drink

What are your plans now that you’ve completed the internship?

“We are still interested in the wedding planning field! But, first we want to be graduate, and probably after that, start a collaboration with the lovely Two Be Wed girls in France! ;) Besides planning weddings, we would also like to plan other events like birthday party, company meetings, etc…”

We wish Lena and Lucie the best of luck on the rest of their studies and hope they are back to visit soon! Stay tuned for Two Be Wed France…

We teamed up with some amazing local wedding vendors to show a couple of different options for using fine china in your wedding design – whether you use the same pattern or mix it up! Our part of the assignment was to focus on mixing and matching patterns, and we had so much fun developing a color scheme and design theme based off of Bering’s wide selection from their wedding registry options.

According to Bering’s Marketing Manager, Julie Shuford, ”more brides are mixing patterns to tailor their setting and personalize it to their style.” Forthe feature we used patterns from popular designers such as Robert Havliand, Royal Crown Derby, Herend’s, Mottahedeh, Bernaudaud’s, Gorham, and Waterford (just to name a few)! All of these designers and more can all be found at Bering’s.

Inspired by the rich earth tones of the china, Flash Paper Scissors created a gorgeous suite as well as one of our favorite details, the menu that doubled as a place card! The cake followed along with the mixing of modern and traditional elements with it’s trendy shape and vintage china inspired design.
