Botanical Bliss

We’ve had the honor of participating in The Gardens of Bammel Lane Fall Open House for the past three years, and this year really wanted to push the envelope. The venue is a charming, English-inspired garden tucked away in the River Oaks area. The Gardens has become one of our favorite venues because it provides a beautiful foundation to work with -the natural greenery and floral, great natural light, the quaint gazebo and the stunning conservatory. As Momma would say, “it has good bones” and can accommodate a wide range of styles. In the past, we’ve styled the venue as shabby chic and garden tea party, but this year decided to play off of the greenery and go au natural.

We chose colors that were warm and inviting, yet still modern and bright. Shades of yellow, pops of orange, tons of greenery and soothing greys to balance it out. The perfect combination to bring us into the fall season. To keep with the natural theme, we kept the design minimalistic, bringing color in through linens and floral. We are experimenting with floral in terms of texture and height, and with a variety of vessels -apothecary jars, beakers and terrariums. Expect to see the Gardens transformed by our arrangements, with the help of Carol Cox from Something Special in Flowers. Aside from a nature enthusiast, our bride is an artist so we incorporated illustrations into the invitations and stationary, designed by Artful Designs by Rachel Nieman, and envision a “leaf shading” station as an interactive guestbook.

Keep the floral simple. Single blooms in various beakers is just enough floral for a minimalistic style, yet still very botanical and affordable!

Incorporate other natural elements, like wood or branches. It provides texture and dimension to your centerpieces.

Display desserts in a creative way that connects to your theme. For botanical, mini cakes or pies in small terraniums like above or placed upon wood slices.

Botanical is the study of plants and it is common to find scientific drawings of various plants and blooms. This watercolor image was the inspiration for our invitation and stationary.

We are often inspired by art. This watercolor image of an English garden inspired our gazebo makeover. Can you imagine standing underneath beautiful blooms and lush greenery as you say I do?

Mini potted plants make the perfect favor and can also double as an escort card or placecard.

Be creative with your guestbook and think outside of your average photo album. For our botanical theme, a leaf shading station provides an interactive guestbook for guests to leave their well wishes and be creative! Another penny saver too!

We’ve been so inspired with this design and the planning process, and hope this gives you a little bit of insight before this week’s open house on Thursday, September 26th at 6:00 pm. The open house is setup like an actual wedding so we’ll have all the key players for you to meet.
