Brooke + Carlos at Silver Street Studios

Let's go back in time to the swingin' Sixties for this couples savvy, retro-chic reception and first ever wedding at Silver Street Studios! The bride, an artist herself, transformed a raw space into an ultra cool and classic party through lighting, draping and black & white decor. Classic never goes out of style and this wedding is proof! Photos by Akil Bennett Photography.

A bride with a vision is a force to be reckoned with, and Brooke was just that bride! From day one, she knew what she wanted and was determined to make it happen. She envisioned a “swingin’ sixties” themed celebration with her nearest and dearest in a unique, raw space. After several tours, phone calls and drive-by’s we secured the perfect venue, Silver Street Studios - a retired beer manufacturing warehouse, and transformed it into a mod-retro-chic reception! Brooke truly embraced the warehouse space instead of trying to cover it up. Lighting and draping was key in this transformation as it amplified the space yet still kept it warm and intimate for guests. The decor was minimal but classic with a black and white color palette packed with vintage flair and handmade details, such as the over-sized marquee initials crafted by the bride’s uncle and  DIY striped runners sewn by the bride’s mother! Classy & cool through and through! See more on the Southern Weddings feature, too!

Akil Bennett | Houston Wedding and Portrait PhotographerAs fans of art, history and all things classic, Brooke and Carlos valued tradition especially in their ceremony. The couple chose to save the first look for the aisle and exhanged their vows at All Saints Catholic Church. For her groom, Brooke converted to Catholicism to celebrate his heritage and beliefs. Aside from the church’s 100+ years of history, the interior and Byzantine images are an enchanting work of art. As guests arrived to Silver Street Studios they were greeted with a red carpet entrance, pillowing white draped curtains and the couple initials in lights – talk about hollywood glamour!

Brooke works at the local art museum and has an eye for visually beautiful things. The combination of draping and lighting transformed what was once an empty warehouse into a warm, inviting intimate gathering for their family and friends. The couples initials were repeated throughout the design – invitation, favors, lighting and a dance floor decal. The details don’t stop there. Brooke’s BFF happens to be an Austin florist from Sweet Sunday Events and assisted with the floral design – gold succulents and tapered candles, paired with organic white and greenery centerpieces by Flowers for Olivia. Keeping it cool with a simple butter cream cake by Alphron Bakery with a vintage wedding topper (with a mustache nonetheless), and a jaw-dropping, one of a kind Rolling Stones cover groom’s cake by Silver Cake Studios. Delicious in design as in taste! To thank their guests, specially crafted mix CD’s and a vintage photo experience in the Photomoto. Nothing can top the shower of metallic from the confetti cannons to conclude the night!
